After 14 years in New York City, I have accumulated several coats. Coats are my preferred method of making a statement in my wardrobe from November until at least March, when we get Winter Weather in the Northeast. Today, I’ve updated my list of the most stylish Winter coats women can wear. They will give your wardrobe variety, but also make sure that you are prepared with a coat that you can wear for any occasion.
I believe that the proper coat paired with the appropriate outfit is the most effective way to appear put together and elegant, instead of looking unfashionable or wearing an old coat to complete an outfit in the Fall and Winter.
Thus, creating an outfit that is classic and useful coats will make winter a little more enjoyable, and dressing in the winter months is much simpler.
When I shop for coats, I like to look for things such as the versatility (can you wear the coat in a variety of ways? Can I get lots of wear out of it? ) and comfort (always important when buying items), warmth, and, of course, practicality. I would like the coats I buy to be properly constructed and truly serve me.
This is why I’ve put up a list of what I believe are the top Winter coats women should keep in their closets. I hope that you will be able to use this list as a source as you design your personal closet of coats, regardless of the type of Winter conditions you’ll encounter wherever you are.
Classic Overcoat
A timeless design that won’t be outdated. The overcoat. This is a style that is a favorite for me during the Winter since it can be dressed up or down due to its classic and timeless wool. This is my Everlane Overcoat above in a size 2 since the year 2019. The image below is the most current version.
If you prefer a more menswear-inspired coat, I would suggest the J.Crew Coat. Mango also has the same Topcoat design and style.
It’s the Long Streamlined Coat
I adore a long, almost to the floor coat. I believe it is elegant – whether dressed up or dressed down, as shown in the two images above.
The coat I’m wearing was made by Massimo Dutti in 2022. The second one is a style from J.Crew (wearing size 6, and it’s quite large, just to be clear). The style is similar to the one that is the one I am wearing.
The Scarf Coat
Consider the idea of a long coat that has a scarf built in to create a contemporary look. I like the style of this particular one.
It’s a lighter winter Jacket.
If you reside in a place that doesn’t get cold, an old-fashioned car coat, such as the Sezane Johnson Jack, et is the perfect choice for you. It is a good weight, but it does not offer a lot of warmth.
I’m wearing a coat of this length during Autumn and even on warm days in winter. It’s such a chic design that it won’t ever go out of style. I am a size larger to a size larger in Sezane coats, and I am wearing it in US 8 and 40 FR. It’s the J.Crew Daphne coat (seen below in size 6) that is similar. It is also the one shown by Mango. Also, it’s a good one too..
The Blazer Coat
A blazer that you can transform into an outfit! It’s a Sezane James Jacket that is always a favorite during the fall season for me. I love the wide lapel, the longer length, and the weight of the fabric.
It’s such a chic style and more fashionable than a conventional peacoat, in my opinion. It’s a perfect Winter jacket for people who live in warmer climates, too.
Size 6 is worn. Additional colors/patterns available. It’s a J.Crew coat in a similar style.
The Wrap Coat
A wrap coat made of the most beautiful, top-quality material like cashmere is a must-have part of every woman’s wardrobe. This wrapped coat is made by Sezane, which I have in two different colors in size 6. It looks fantastic belted, or worn loose as styled above.
It’s the Tailored Oversized Coat
It’s a personal favorite of mine. Also, this and Other Stories coat is so nice that I have it in three shades. This is my absolute favorite coat of the winter. I especially like the oversized lapels.
I cut down from a Small size. It is still oversized in shape and feel, but without overpowering my frame.
Mango is the same style. It’s this one as well as that one that are both similar.
It’s the Wool Cuffed Coat
I adore not just the dark chocolate brown hue of this coat, but the huge cuffs! It’s a chic and fashionable fashion that won’t fade. The style I’m wearing was purchased by Me and Em, and I’m wearing the size US 6.
This is the Cropped Oversized Coat
One of my favorite coats is when a chill is in the air. I love this big Leo Coat from Sezane to instantly add a stylish, girly look to all outfits. It’s also stylish when worn with my most-loved athleisure outfits and can get a lot of wear this way as well.
The Shawl Coat
Absolutely slouchy, beautifully drapey, and easy to put on and instantly appear put-together shawl coat is the perfect choice. My current favorite can be found in the Double Face gorgeously tailored Eileen Fisher Coat. I cut it down to an S.
The Sporty Jacket
I love layering a puffer jacket that is lightweight throughout the winter and fall seasons. I am a fan of my Vuori Canyon Insulated Jacket, especially because it’s a great topper for any outfit during the Fall or Winter. This jacket is warm and is made of recycled material, which helps to shield your body from the elements. I am in love with the cut and style of this jacket, particularly. I’m wearing a size M.
To get a better investment with a water-resistant shell, look into this puffer jacket by Lululemon..
The Quilted Coat
If you reside in a region in which it doesn’t get this cold, then an insulated liner coat with quilting is the ideal item for your needs. I usually wear mine in the fall, but because it’s a reversible piece, my Amazon model (above in size M) can be flipped; the sherpa side is perfect for winter in warmer climates.
I also own this Toteme version with a chic built-in cuff, as well as an off-duty, cool fit to it. I reduced the size of Tanana S.
I am also a fan of the style of the identical Everlane Quilted Liner Coat.
The Plaid Coat
For those who are like me and have an outfit that is mostly comprised of neutrals and plaids, a plaid coat can be an excellent way to dress. I especially love it with a timeless style that is a little below the knees, like it is the Abercrombie “Dad coat” I am wearing above in a Medium size.
I usually find lots of lovely plaid-colored coats from Zara every season.
The Roomier Topper
Great for layering, or if you require a bump-friendly coat, I prefer the look of a coat that is roomy in the hips. This M.M.LaFleur Kasha Jacket is a perfect neutral choice for casual wear. It is slim and light enough to take with you on winter travel.
The Reversible Coat
We are sucker for a two-for-one piece, don’t we? This coat is half suede, half shearling. It comes in five shades.
I also own the coat below that I love. It has shearling on one end and an elegant blue quilted on the reverse. I am wearing size M.
The White Coat
Okay, maybe not the most practical option of coat option, but I do love white coats in winter, especially when paired with festive outfits.
It is stunning and extremely Amanda Woods-coded!
It’s the Practical Puffer Coat
Naturally, I needed to add an appropriate puffer coat. This is the coat that I put on during the coldest winter days when I have no other options and has always been a great help to me to keep warm. I’m in this Everlane Re: New Parka that’s equal to stylish and sporty, which keeps me comfortable in freezing temperatures. I’ve had it for many years. Here is the latest version.
The material used in this coat is 100% recycled down insulation (instead of synthetic insulation), which means it can aid in body heat. I am awed by the fact that it does not weigh a lot on your body like similar puffer coats. It’s more streamlined and stylish than any clothing. It also has a waterproof finish and a snorkel hood, hand pockets that are lined with fleece for keeping your hands cozy, and internal sleeves and cuffs.
It’s a great puffer jacket that is perfect for winter, and it’s cheaper than the Canada Goose coat. In a Medium size.
If you’re looking for more of the sleeping bag-like design to keep warm against frigid temperatures, look at the widget below, which I’ve put together with different designs.
The Faux Fur Coat
A perfect nighttime accessory for more sophisticated looks is the faux fur jacket. This jacket comes from J.Crew, as I’m sporting size L.
